What actually happens on the day.
- 1We arrive when we said. Confirmed slot, dust sheets down first. A single-room install is one day, start to finish.
- 2Indoor unit up. Bracket levelled and fixed, one neat sleeved hole core-drilled for the pipe run, unit mounted.
- 3Outdoor unit sited properly. Brackets or a ground base, positioned for airflow, serviceability and your neighbours' peace — not wherever's quickest.
- 4Connected, tested, proven. Pipework connected and insulated, the circuit pressure-tested and vacuumed, then charged and run in both modes while you watch.
- 5Handover, not a disappearing act. Cooling, heating, timers, the remote — all demonstrated. Warranty registered, paperwork left, mess taken with us.

Certified — and you can check
Refrigerant work is legally restricted to F-Gas certified engineers. CFM Cooling is F-Gas certified under ref 1021416 and fully insured — ask to see the certificate, from us or from anyone else you're considering. A quote well under market usually means uncertified labour, and that costs more later.

Coastal air & outdoor units
Near the coast — Clacton, Frinton, the estuaries — salt air corrodes outdoor coils faster than inland. It changes what we spec (coastal-protection coatings where the manufacturer offers them), where we site the condenser, and how often it's worth a rinse-down at service. Ignore it and the unit ages a decade in five years.
Cottages, conservation & listed
This patch has serious planning geography — Dedham Vale, conservation villages, timber-framed and listed cottages. Solid or timber-framed walls change the mounting and pipe route; listed buildings need consent before anything touches a wall. We check the planning position at the survey, not after the drill comes out.
Lofts & garden offices
Loft conversions and garden offices are where we get called most: rooms the radiators never reached, roasting in July and freezing in January. One air-to-air unit fixes both seasons, and the pipe run is usually shorter — and cheaper — than people expect.

How disruptive is the installation?↓
A straightforward single-room install is usually done in a day: indoor unit on the wall, outdoor unit outside, a neat pipe run between, pressure-tested and handed over. We tidy as we go.
Will it really heat in winter?↓
Yes — it's a heat pump, so it moves heat rather than generating it. You typically get three or more kilowatts of heat per kilowatt of electricity, which makes it one of the cheapest ways to heat a single room.
Do I need planning permission?↓
Usually not for a house — most installs fall under permitted development. The local exceptions are real though: listed buildings and conservation villages need consent, and flats need the freeholder's permission. We check which applies at the free survey, before you commit.
Is the outdoor unit noisy?↓
Modern units run at conversation level or below at a few metres, and siting is half the job — we position for airflow, serviceability and neighbour relations, and can share the manufacturer's noise data for your quote.
